What we are delighted about Tornjak’s, as well as all the other breed lovers, is their unique character. Tornjak has a typical character of a shepherd dog. Tornjak is a defensive dog. Every Tornjak owner will tell you that this is a friendly and caring dog who worships children. But it is also important to know that, as far as the peace-loving nature is concerned, Tornjak is first of all a guardian (shepherd), who is always on guard.

Tornjak’s character is just tough enough to be a good guardian in the space it is keeping, but at the same time very close, warm and extremely gentle o its people, close friends and children. The shepherd dog is unusually tender in relation to its owner and his family, who will guard them always and everywhere, as well protect owner’s property at the cost of it’s own life.

But tornjak is not a dog for long-term loneliness and self-sufficiency, like some other shepherds. It likes to be close to people, it’s very playful and cheerful in the company of children. But it also shouldn’t never be mistaken for it’s shinning hair, it must be pointed out that in its back yard, pasture wit sheep, house, garage, a car or a ship, any space it perceives as property of it’s owner – it will guard it uncompromisingly! It guards and doesn’t retreat!
